Posts Treats & Supplies
Hamsters look cute and adorable. Many people choose hamsters as their pets. However, hamsters are small in size and have relatively fragile vitality. Extra care must be taken when raising them, as any slight negligence may endanger their life and health!
Today I have compiled some notes on hamster care, including the hamster living environment, basic supplies for raising hamsters, hamster diet, and things you must not do while keeping hamsters.
Hamsters will feel anxious when arriving in an unfamiliar environment, and some may even suffer from diarrhoea out of fear. Place them in a quiet area to let them adapt to the new environment. Do not rush to hold them.
The suitable living temperature for hamsters is 20-28°C, with a temperature difference not exceeding 10°C. They will enter false hibernation if the temperature is too low, so keep them warm in winter.
The hamster cage should be placed away from direct sunlight and direct wind, while ensuring good ventilation.
Do not place the cage too close to TVs, speakers or computers to avoid radiation and noise.
Prevent direct sunlight on hamsters. In winter, you may put them indoors where there is mild sunlight to raise the temperature, while cooling measures are required in summer.
Do not turn on air conditioners for hamsters in summer. The temperature fluctuation caused by switching air conditioners on and off may make hamsters catch a cold.
Never keep hamsters outdoors in winter. Extreme cold will trigger hibernation. You can put the whole cage inside a cardboard or wooden box, and remember to keep it ventilated.
Hamsters are quite active. Insufficient exercise can easily make them unhappy, and even lead to depression in severe cases.
Do not keep hamsters in a cramped space. The enclosure should at least be equipped with a water bottle, food bowl, hideout and running wheel.
Hamster cage: A cage is essential for hamster keeping. The minimum standard is a 47-base cage for dwarf hamsters and a 60-base cage for Syrian hamsters. Still, the bigger the cage, the better.
