Feeding plans should be adjusted according to the hamster's age:

- **Baby hamsters (0–2 months old):** Feed small portions frequently after weaning, 4 to 5 times a day. Offer a small amount of staple food with soft fruits and vegetables. A small quantity of high-protein supplementary food is allowed, and treats should not exceed 10% of the staple food.
- **Adult hamsters (2–18 months old):** Feed 2 to 3 times daily at fixed morning and evening hours. Serve most food at night due to their nocturnal nature. Limit fruits, vegetables and treats to prevent obesity.
- **Senior hamsters (over 18 months old):** Feed 3 to 4 times a day. Provide soft, easy-to-digest food and cut down hard treats. You may soak pellets in goat milk powder.

#### Feeding tips

Hamsters eat most actively from dusk to early morning, so serve the majority of staple food at night. Recommended diet ratio: 80% staple food, 15% fruits and vegetables, 5% treats. Check leftover food in the bowl to adjust portion sizes.

#### 5 common mistakes for new owners

1. Do not feed leftover human food.
2. Avoid unlimited food supply — hamsters hoard food, which spoils easily.
3. Fruits and vegetables cannot replace clean drinking water.
4. Never give cow’s milk (hamsters are lactose intolerant).
5. Do not overfeed nuts for fat storage in winter. Adding thicker bedding keeps them warm instead.
