Mine is the same. I check every week and only trim one nail occasionally. A good wheel does most of the work.

The bedding change is the likely cause. If it is only softer and he is eating, I would give it 48 hours back on the old bedding.

Two days after a bedding change it is usually the bedding, not illness. Give it another 48 hours and watch the water bottle level. If he keeps drinking normally I would not panic yet.
